The Bono East Regional Planning Manager of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Mr. Bismark Adusei, has cautioned drivers against overspeeding and other reckless driving practices, urging them to exercise greater responsibility to help reduce road crashes.
Mr. Adusei said excessive speed remains a major threat to road safety and puts the lives of drivers, passengers and other road users at risk.
He urged motorists to observe prescribed speed limits and exercise caution, particularly when driving in areas with heavy traffic, pedestrian activity and other potential hazards.
Mr. Adusei reminded drivers that exceeding prescribed speed limits is an offence under Ghana’s road traffic laws and that offenders may face legal sanctions, including fines and, where applicable, imprisonment.
He therefore appealed to drivers to make road safety a priority by driving within the permitted speed limits and avoiding behaviours that could endanger themselves and other road users.
He stressed that responsible driving remains essential to reducing preventable road crashes and saving lives.
Road safety authorities have consistently identified speeding and other dangerous driving practices among the major factors contributing to road crashes in Ghana.
