NPP’s Paul Yandoh blames NDC for rising youth pregnancy rates

Paul Yandoh, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has attributed recent cases of pregnancies among participants in the Youth Apprenticeship Programme (YAP) to the influence of some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He suggested that the involvement of certain NDC affiliates in the program has created situations that have led to unintended pregnancies among young apprentices.

According to him, while the Youth Apprenticeship Program was designed to equip young Ghanaians with skills and practical experience, the behaviour of a few individuals has undermined the program’s objectives.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Paul Yandoh alleged that all 42 individuals involved in the recent Youth Apprenticeship Program incidents were impregnated by persons affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The NDCs have impregnated all of them. All the 42 people,” he claimed.

According to Yando, this is not an isolated occurrence in the Central Region, noting that similar cases have been reported in the past.

“This is not the first time this is happening in the Central Region. There was even a PC who impregnated a lady, and as of now, we still have reports on it,” he said.

He further criticised the NDC for failing to implement initiatives that yield tangible results.

“They have brought nothing which has been successful,” he stated.

Paul Yandoh, who is noted for making comic remarks, especially when defending the NPP in the media, also pointed to challenges in the cocoa sector, describing cocoa as a vital pillar of Ghana’s economy and accusing political actors of mismanaging it.

“The cocoa issue, which is the backbone of the economy, is being mismanaged; they are playing with these cocoa farmers,” he added.

The Youth Apprenticeship Program, initiated by the government, aims to provide vocational training and practical work experience for Ghanaian youth to improve employability and promote entrepreneurship. However, incidents such as these have raised questions about oversight and the welfare of young participants.
