The Minister for the Interior, in consultation with the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the Ghana Police Service, has issued an Executive Instrument amending the curfew hours for Nkwanta Township in the Oti Region.
The revised curfew will be in effect from 8 pm to 6 am on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, due to the District Level Elections.
The Ministry has reassured residents that necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the protection of lives, properties, and to uphold peace before, during, and after the elections.
Earlier, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, the Minister for Interior, based on advice from the Oti Regional Security Council, had imposed a curfew on Nkwanta South township from 5 pm to 6 am following clashes between three tribal groups over a piece of land.
Despite residents expressing concerns about the curfew impacting their livelihoods and businesses, security authorities have enforced the curfew with personnel on the ground to maintain law and order.
A press release, attributed to the Minister of Interior Ambrose Derry (MP), announced the revised curfew hours.
