The Assemblyman for the Ahorkpoe Electoral Area in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, Hon. Robert Gilbert Kwaku Nuwoku, has criticized the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for neglecting his Electoral Area and other areas and towns affected in Agbozume and other surrounding areas by flood.

According to the Assemblyman, NADMO has not given them any support in terms of relief items ever since the areas had been flooded from the beginning of the year 2023.

Speaking exclusively to Class News Volta Regional Correspondent, Kingsley Attitsogbui, on Tuesday October 3 2023, the assemblyman said: “NADMO has not done anything at all in my area. What happened was that when the flood started, we called them. We called for their attention and they sent one of their workers. We moved with him from house to house and by then people were leaving their houses to safer grounds and everything was recorded to the NADMO Office but nothing was done till now” he said.

Highlighting on the suffering of the residents in the affected areas, Hon. Nuwoku, said that their livelihoods as farmers, Kente weavers, traders and others are badly affected.

The Ketu South and Keta municipalities have suffered floods in many dimensions these years.

He added that Agbozume and its environs in the Ketu South Municipality have suffered greatly in the flood as several houses have been in water since the onset of the rains this year.

He revealed that in June this year, some schools were forced to go on holidays because of the flooding situation in the area.

As the new academic calendar begun on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 many areas cut off by the flood where there are schools will continue to face challenges until a solution is found.

Some of the areas most affected are Ahorkpoe Electoral Area, Kpedzakope Electoral Area, Dzaglame Electoral Area Logove Electoral Area, Sukladzi Kumevikope, Axadzikope and Governorkope among others.
