Twenty-seven (27) communities within the Nkoranza North Constituency in the Bono East Region have been connected to the national electricity grid through the efforts of the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Mensah.
The electrification project is expected to significantly improve the living standards of residents by enhancing access to power for household use, education, healthcare delivery, and small-scale economic activities.
Speaking in an interview with Apiah-Kubi, Hon. Mensah reiterated his determination to ensure that more communities benefit from electricity supply.
He disclosed that he is engaging the Ministry of Energy to extend power to additional communities that are yet to be connected to the national grid, including Abirekyirekrom, Otumfuor Farms, Anafuor, and Asuoti.
Other beneficiary communities expected to receive electricity under the extension project include Kranka, Baafi, Dwenewoho, Bono Manso, and Sikaa.
The MP emphasized his commitment to achieving universal electricity access in the constituency, stating that he would not relent until every household is connected to the national grid.
“I am not going to sleep at all until every household has access to electricity,” he stressed, while urging residents to help protect the electricity infrastructure.
Hon. Mensah described the initiative as an important step toward improving livelihoods and promoting local economic development across the district.
He further explained that the project is being implemented through a cost-sharing arrangement in which the government supplies the materials while he personally finances the construction and distribution works.
According to him, discussions for the project began during the previous NPP administration, during which he was informed that government would provide the materials if he covered the construction costs.
“Because of the urgent need for my constituents to get electricity, I agreed,” he stated.
