President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Harvard-trained lawyer and academic Dr Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as Acting Director-General of the Value for Money Office.
The appointment was announced in an official statement signed by the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP.
Dr Aziz-Bamba takes up the role following the establishment of the Value for Money Office under the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172), which was signed into law by President Mahama in May 2026.
The legislation mandates the office to promote prudent public expenditure, tackle financial waste and ensure that government spending delivers measurable socio-economic benefits to citizens.
The new Acting Director-General brings more than 16 years of experience in legal practice and consulting to the position.
Prior to his appointment, Dr Aziz-Bamba served as a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, where he contributed to legal education and scholarship.
He is also the founder and managing partner of Azizbamba & Associates, a law firm through which he has developed a reputation in legal practice and public policy consulting.
His appointment places him at the helm of an institution expected to play a key role in strengthening accountability and value for money in public spending.
The Value for Money Office is expected to scrutinise government expenditure and help ensure that public resources are used efficiently and for their intended socio-economic purposes.
