The Ho Municipal Assembly has announced a two-day National Massive Clean-Up Exercise to be held on Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at improving environmental sanitation and public health.
The exercise, scheduled to run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on both days, is being organised in compliance with a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to promote cleanliness, public safety and healthy living across the country.
In a statement signed by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Henry Y. Amesimeku, the Assembly urged all residents of the municipality, including students, to actively participate in the exercise.
Residents living outside the Ho township have been advised to tune in to local radio stations, listen for gong-gong announcements, or contact their chiefs and assembly members for information on designated assembly points.
Designated Clean-Up Areas
The Assembly has identified several priority locations for the exercise, including major drains and public spaces across the municipality.
These include the drains stretching from Tsiyikpota to Ape-Lotto’s residence, Amegashie Bridge to Anlokordzi, Rabazey to Sonrise School, Thywill Worship Bay to Housing Bridge, and the Bankoe storm-water drains from the Jerry Art area through Togbe Apede’s Palace to YMCA and Anlokordzi.
All markets and lorry stations within the municipality have also been earmarked for intensive clean-up activities.
Churches, government institutions, senior high schools and tertiary institutions have been directed to undertake weeding, sweeping, desilting of drains and the clearing of refuse within their assigned locations.
To facilitate easy identification and effective monitoring, participants have been encouraged to wear uniforms or branded attire representing their respective institutions or organisations.
Institutions Assigned Specific Areas
The Assembly has also allocated special responsibilities to various institutions.
The Ghana Prisons Service will clean the stretch from Ring Road to the Residency, while Wallas Academy has been assigned the median from Bankoe to Lokoe.
The Volta Regional Police Training School will undertake cleaning from the training school to the GCB Market branch.
Similarly, Ho Technical University (HTU) will cover the stretch from HTU Junction to Volta Vicharles and SSNIT Flat Junction, while the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) will clean from the UHAS Roundabout to Diamond Street Junction.
The Women’s Development Vocational School, Lokoe, has been tasked with cleaning the median from Lokoe to the UHAS Roundabout.
Sokode Senior High School will work on the median from SOSTECH to the Gborgame Roundabout, while staff of the Ho Municipal Assembly will clean the stretch between the UHAS Roundabout and SOSTECH.
Basic and junior high schools, both public and private, have also been directed to organise similar clean-up exercises within their school compounds and surrounding communities.
In addition, the Assembly will undertake dredging works along the storm-water drain running from the barracks to the polyclinic.
The Ho Municipal Assembly has appealed to all educational institutions, security agencies, churches, traditional authorities, assembly members, transport unions, market associations and residents to participate fully in the exercise to ensure its success.
The assembly emphasised that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve sanitation and create a healthier environment for residents.
“Let us work together to keep Ho clean, green and beautiful,” the statement concluded.
