The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six (6) suspects in connection with a highway robbery on the Portor–Gurumpe road in the Kintampo area, recovering the entire GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from a cattle trader.
According to a police statement issued on July 20, 2026, the robbery occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on July 19, when officers stationed at the Portor Police Barrier received intelligence that a robbery was in progress a short distance from the checkpoint.
Police said a patrol team responded immediately to the scene. On arrival, four of the suspects fled into a nearby bush, but officers arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25.
During preliminary interrogation, Abdul Sadat Ali allegedly identified Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino truck with registration number AS 7337-23, as an accomplice. Police subsequently arrested him.
Further investigations revealed that the Kia Rhino’s owner, Yahaya Seidu, 35, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle. Police said the driver allegedly conspired with five others after learning that his employer would be carrying a large amount of cash.
Investigators said the suspects allegedly trailed the truck from Offinso in the Ashanti Region before intercepting it shortly after it passed the Portor Police barrier. Armed with what police described as a toy pistol, they allegedly robbed the occupants of GH¢300,000 in cash.
A joint operation involving personnel from the Police Counter Terrorism Unit and the local patrol team led to the arrest of four additional suspects identified as Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21, Asigri Avoka, 25, Awini Stephen, 19 and Faisal Salifu, 26, after they fled into nearby bushland.
Police said a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of the full GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from the victims.
According to investigators, the suspects admitted during interrogation that they had followed the victims from Offinso before carrying out the robbery at Portor after receiving information from Samad Issahaka.
All six suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to face prosecution.
The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the swift response and professionalism of officers at the Portor Police Barrier, as well as the Counter Terrorism Unit, for their role in the successful operation.
The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Bono East Region and urged the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely information to support crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
