Residents of Abutia Kisifli in the Ho West District of the Volta region have bemoaned the inability of the assembly to complete the community water system to supply water to the community.
The long overdue project has negatively affected livelihood of residents over the years but can be described currently as a dire situation.
They fervently lamented on how the old borehole constructed by DANIDA that serves as source of water to the community has also been seized to be used for the new system under Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (Community Water and Sanitation Agency).
A visit to the community by IGNEWSS reporter saw the yet to function water project with its water distribution system and the standing pipes standing dried in the community while the community folk struggle for potable water for domestic use.
The former Assembly member of the Kisifli electoral area, Seth Afumenya disclosed to the reporter that, it has got to a point where residents can no longer withstand the situation but rather call on authorities in charge to intervene and salvage the situation.
According to him, if the contractor and his subordinates are not ready to commission the project to supply water to the community, they should just come back and take off their pumps to give way to the community to return to the DANIDA borehole for water.
In an interview with Selorm Avornyo, the system manager of the project at the Community Water and Sanitation, Ho, noted that the project is yet to be completed since it is left with some system testing to be done for effective supply of water to the community.
He said, other communities within the Ho West District have benefited from the project and since have been getting water supply.
He mentioned communities such as Abutia Agorve and Dededo who got their projects commissioned and handed over to the commander for use.
Speaking to the development on Swiss FM’s morning show the “Volta Express” Mr. Avornyo further revealed that he has been pressuring the contractor of the project who assured him of resuming work to complete the project as soon as possible.
