The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North in the Bono East Region, Effah Patrick, has urged Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the district to view the exam as a stepping stone rather than the end of their education.
Speaking in an interview with Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi on the programme Me Man Ho Dadwen, Mr Effah said completing junior high school marks only one stage in the education cycle.
“You have just ended at a certain stage of education. This means you are preparing for the next stage, which is senior high school,” he told candidates ahead of the examination.
The DCE expressed confidence in the candidates’ level of preparation, noting that BECE questions are clear and manageable.
He said the students had already written mock examinations similar to the final papers and encouraged them to rely on what their teachers had taught them.
Mr Effah also cautioned both candidates and teachers against examination malpractice.
He warned that candidates caught cheating risk having their results cancelled and appealed to teachers to refrain from assisting students during the exams.
“Any country that undermines its education system risks underdevelopment. Education today is different from what it used to be. Make the most of your effort, use your knowledge effectively, and desist from examination malpractice,” he said.
He further highlighted the Free Senior High School policy, describing it as a significant contribution to Ghana’s education system, and urged candidates to take advantage of it to advance their academic careers.
The BECE in Nkoranza North commenced with officials visiting examination centres to offer moral support and monitor the process.
Mr Effah concluded by wishing the candidates success and expressing hope for strong results that would make the district proud.
