A Techiman-based cocoa farmer, Mr. Owusu Brempong, has urged cocoa farmers to accept the new producer price announced for the 2026/2027 cocoa crop season.
The producer price has been increased from GH¢2,587 to GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogramme bag.
Speaking in an interview with Kwadwo Ofosu Baffoe, Mr. Brempong acknowledged concerns among farmers over the new price, particularly the rising cost of cocoa production.
He said farmers were spending more on labour, fertiliser, chemicals, transportation and other farm maintenance activities, making production increasingly expensive.
Mr. Brempong said although the increase might not fully address the challenges confronting cocoa farmers, producers should accept the new price while continuing to engage the government and relevant authorities on measures to improve their livelihoods.
He also called for sustained support for cocoa farmers to help maintain production and safeguard the future of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
