The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called for stronger collaboration between the European Union (EU) and the Ghana Police Service, particularly in cyber security, counter-terrorism, specialised training and community policing.
Mr Yohuno made the call when the EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Rune Skinnebach, paid a courtesy call on him to discuss areas of cooperation between the EU and the Ghana Police Service.
The engagement focused on the EU’s ongoing support to the Police Service, including training and capacity-building programmes in community policing, forensic investigations, cyber security and crime scene management.
The IGP expressed appreciation to the European Union for its continued support to the Service, noting the importance of sustained international partnerships in strengthening the capacity of the Police to respond to emerging security threats.
He called for expanded cooperation in areas such as cyber security and counter-terrorism, as well as specialised training and community policing, which he identified as important areas for enhancing policing operations and strengthening public engagement.
Mr Yohuno also underscored the need for the Police Service to continually improve its professional and technical capacity to keep pace with evolving forms of crime and security challenges.
Ambassador Skinnebach reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working with the Ghana Police Service and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening policing, security and the rule of law in Ghana.
The engagement forms part of ongoing cooperation between Ghana and the European Union in the security sector, with a focus on institutional capacity-building and strengthening the ability of law enforcement agencies to address emerging threats.
