The Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Techiman Area, Mr Samuel Agyei, has appealed to parents and guardians to provide the basic educational materials their children need as schools prepare to reopen for the new academic year.
Mr Agyei said while the government continues to invest in the education sector, parents and guardians also have a critical role to play in ensuring that their children are adequately prepared for school.
He said children require certain basic materials to participate effectively in school activities and urged parents to make the necessary preparations before the reopening date.
Among the essential items he mentioned were school uniforms, sandals or shoes, and school bags, which he said parents should endeavour to provide for their children.
Mr Agyei stressed that providing quality education cannot be the sole responsibility of the government or teachers but requires the collective commitment of parents, guardians, teachers and students.
He also encouraged students currently on vacation to use the remaining period to prepare themselves mentally and academically for the new school year.
According to him, students must return to school with a renewed sense of purpose and be prepared to take their studies seriously.
He urged them to demonstrate discipline, commitment and determination throughout the academic year, saying their attitude towards learning would significantly influence their academic progress.
Mr Agyei further called on parents to remain actively involved in their children’s education by monitoring their academic progress and maintaining regular communication with teachers and school authorities where necessary.
He said sustained parental involvement, combined with the efforts of teachers and government, would help create the conditions needed for children to achieve their educational goals.
