The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) has graduated a total of five hundred and seventy-two (572) students from its doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s programmes as the university marked its 22nd Graduation Ceremony.
The graduating class comprised eight PhD scholars, 69 master’s graduates and 495 bachelor’s graduates.
Of the bachelor’s graduates, 405 completed campus-based programmes, while 90 graduated through AIT’s Open University programmes.
The graduation ceremony highlighted the university’s expanding contribution to postgraduate education, research and the development of skilled professionals for Ghana’s workforce.
PhD Alumni Surpass 100
One of the major highlights of the ceremony was the graduation of eight (8) new PhD scholars, taking AIT’s cumulative number of doctoral graduates to more than 100.
The latest cohort also marks the 14th occasion on which AIT has graduated PhD scholars.
AIT President, Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, described the achievement as a significant milestone for the university, particularly given its relatively young age.
He said more than half of AIT’s PhD graduates had attained professorial rank within three years of completing their doctoral studies, describing the development as an indication of the impact of the university’s postgraduate programmes.
Professor Dzidonu said AIT’s influence could also be seen across Ghana’s higher education sector, with graduates of its doctoral programmes serving as faculty members in many public and private universities.
He added that academic and senior administrative staff from almost all public and private universities in Ghana had undertaken doctoral studies at AIT.
Focus on Research and Human Capital
AIT’s postgraduate research programmes cover disciplines including engineering, information technology, education and business administration.
The university says the programmes are designed to strengthen research capacity, innovation and the development of human capital in support of Ghana’s science, technology and innovation agenda.
The 22nd Graduation Ceremony brings the university’s latest cohort of trained professionals into the workforce, with 495 bachelor’s graduates and 69 master’s graduates joining the AIT alumni community.
The university described the ceremony as more than an annual academic milestone, saying its growing postgraduate research activities were contributing to the development of teaching, research and academic leadership within Ghana’s higher education system.
AIT Chairman Commends University’s Progress
Chairman of the AIT Board of Trustees, Emeritus Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah, commended the university for achieving important milestones despite its relatively young history.
He described AIT as “fast becoming a world-class private technological university” and congratulated the graduating class on completing their respective programmes.
Professor Addae-Mensah, however, cautioned the graduates against viewing graduation as the end of their learning journey.
He urged them to use the knowledge and opportunities acquired during their studies as a foundation for continued personal and professional development.
Graduates Challenged to Keep Learning
Addressing the graduates, Professor Dzidonu emphasised the importance of lifelong learning in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
He urged the Class of 2026 to become “Sovereign Lifelong Learners” by taking personal responsibility for continually developing their knowledge, skills and professional capabilities.
He challenged the graduates to “See the Opportunity, Explore the Possibility and Create the Difference”, encouraging them to apply their education to create value, build sustainable careers and contribute meaningfully to society.
The university says the changing technological and economic environment requires graduates to remain adaptable and continuously acquire new skills throughout their professional lives.
AIT is accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to offer campus-based and Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The university is affiliated with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for campus-based undergraduate programmes in engineering, computer science and information technology, and business administration.
Its Open University undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the master’s and PhD levels are offered in affiliation with the Open University of Malaysia.
