The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two (2) Nigerian nationals in connection with the murder of a fellow Nigerian whose body was discovered at his residence in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.
The suspects, Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following the death of Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, a 36-year-old Nigerian national.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two (2) suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.
Police said they launched investigations after receiving a report that the deceased had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom.
A team of investigators who visited the scene discovered that the victim had sustained a deep cut to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The room had also been ransacked, suggesting a violent struggle and possible theft.
During the crime scene examination, investigators recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other evidential materials for forensic analysis.
The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed the victim dead before it was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Through intelligence-led operations, police tracked and arrested the two suspects at Tatale later the same day while they were allegedly attempting to flee into neighbouring Togo through the Tatale border route.
They were subsequently transferred to the Tamale District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to assist with investigations.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly admitted during interrogation that they conspired to kill the deceased after accusing him of withholding proceeds from alleged internet fraud activities.
Following their arrest, investigators conducted a search and recovered several items believed to have been stolen from the deceased’s room. The exhibits include multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, wristwatches, clothing, personal documents and other valuables.
Police said all the recovered items have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear before court on Monday, July 13, 2026, to facilitate the legal process while investigations continue.
The Northern Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that everyone connected to the crime is brought to justice and appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to assist law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
