The Asogli Traditional Council, led by the Agbogbomefia, His Royal Majesty Togbe Afede XIV, has joined the chiefs, elders, queen mothers, and people of Matse in mourning the passing of Togbega Osei Tutu VI.

In a tribute, the Council described the late chief as a distinguished royal, esteemed Paramount Chief, and statesman whose life was marked by dignity, wisdom, and dedicated service.

According to the Council, his passing is a painful loss not only to the people of Matse but also to the wider traditional fraternity, where his loyalty and noble service earned him deep respect and admiration.

Togbega Osei Tutu VI was celebrated as a revered embodiment of royalty and a fountain of wisdom whose counsel was always characterised by clarity, maturity, and sound judgment.

The Council recalled that before the establishment of the Matse Traditional Council, when Matse remained part of the Asogli Traditional Council, the late Togbega Osei Tutu VI served faithfully as a respected member. During that period, he contributed meaningfully to deliberations and remained deeply committed to the peace, dignity, and progress of the Council, consistently placing the welfare of the people and the sanctity of tradition above personal interest.

Following the passing of Togbe Afede Asor II, then President of the Asogli Traditional Council, Togbega Osei Tutu VI was entrusted with the responsibility of Acting President during a crucial and delicate period. The Council noted that he managed its affairs with wisdom, steadiness, and dignity, providing continuity and guidance until the enstoolment of Togbe Afede XIV.

His stewardship, the Council stated, reflected profound respect for traditional authority and demonstrated a rare capacity for prudent, fair, and unifying leadership.

As Paramount Chief of Matse, Togbega Osei Tutu VI served his people with devotion, compassion, and foresight. His reign was marked by humility, justice, and a fatherly concern for the wellbeing of all under his care.

Although his passing leaves an irreplaceable void, the Council said his legacy remains firmly engraved in the history of Matse and in the collective memory of Asogli. He will be remembered as a principled traditional ruler, dependable colleague, and wise royal whose contributions to governance and communal harmony continue to inspire future generations.

The Council prayed that the ancestors receive the late chief with honour and grant him peaceful rest among the revered custodians of tradition. It concluded that although he has departed from sight, his memory will remain a lasting beacon of wisdom, dignity, and dedicated service.

Togbega Osei Tutu VI was enstooled on 18 June 1968 under the appellation “Adza Le Afe Ho Lesisi” during a colourful durbar ceremony. From the beginning of his reign, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education, healthcare, development, and the social wellbeing of his people.

The Paramount Stool of the Matse Dzobi Traditional Area became vacant following the passing of Togbe Sakyi in April 1967. By tradition, it was the turn of the Agbi Royal Family of Agunyagbo to nominate a candidate for enstoolment. Although Philip belonged to the Daku Royal Family, the royal clan unanimously selected Mr. Wilfred Anani Kwasi Deh in 1968 because he was the preferred choice of both elders and the youth.

Throughout his reign, Togbega Osei Tutu VI worked closely with fellow Dzobi chiefs, neighbouring traditional authorities, and the Volta Regional House of Chiefs. His relationship with Togbe Afede Asor was particularly strong, and the two maintained a close bond until their respective passing.

He was widely admired for his discipline and punctuality, rarely absent from important meetings, workshops, and conferences. His commitment ensured that the traditional area remained actively represented in both regional and national traditional affairs.

Togbega Osei Tutu VI also led several important delegations on behalf of the Traditional Authority. Notably, he represented the authority in formally announcing the passing of Togbe Afede Asor to the Presidency and played a prominent role in the burial and final funeral rites.
