Police in the Savannah Region have launched investigations after the lifeless body of a 31-year-old motorbike mechanic was found in a pool of blood at the outskirts of Larabanga, a suburb of Damongo.
The deceased, identified as Ganiu Zackaria, popularly known as No Pen, was discovered at dawn on Thursday, October 23, with his motorcycle and a black goat lying beside him.
According to residents, Ganiu, who lived and worked in Damongo, was allegedly trailed by unknown assailants who attacked and slit his throat in the early hours of the morning.
A community leader in the area, Ahmed, told JoyNews that the community woke up to the tragic discovery.
“I was still in bed when my younger brother came and woke me up with the sad news. Yes, I know him — he’s a motor mechanic from Damongo, and they call him No Pen. What I saw was that his killers followed him from somewhere and finally got him. They slaughtered his throat and left a goat and his motorcycle beside him,” he recounted.
The chilling scene has left residents in shock, with some linking the murder to recent reports of livestock theft in Damongo.
