The Ghana Police Service has warned motorists against the unauthorised use of sirens, horns, strobe lights and other emergency warning devices, reminding the public that their use without legal authority is an offence under the country’s road traffic regulations.

In a statement issued by the Police Headquarters Public Affairs Directorate, the service said the use of such devices without authorisation is prohibited under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).

According to the police, the misuse of emergency warning devices poses a significant threat to public safety by creating unnecessary panic among road users and contributing to indiscipline on the nation’s roads.

The Service has therefore directed all individuals who have installed unauthorised sirens, horns, strobe lights or similar emergency devices on their vehicles to remove them immediately in compliance with Regulation 74 of L.I. 2180.

The police disclosed that ongoing nationwide enforcement operations have already led to the arrest of several offenders and indicated that the exercise would continue across the country.

The statement emphasised that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to enforcing road traffic laws to improve safety, maintain order and promote discipline on Ghana’s roads.

The police also cautioned that persons found violating the regulations would be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.
