Limited Voter Registration: VR recorded 847 challenge cases in 14 days

A total of Eight Hundred and Forty Seven (847) challenge cases have been recorded in the first two weeks of the limited voter registration exercise in the Volta Region.

The Volta Region, in the first fourteen days of the exercise, thus from Tuesday, September 12 to Monday, September 25, 2023, registered a total of 38, 294 new registrants against 847 challenge cases during the period under review.

Persons challenged in the process are those that the political party agents suspect to be minors, thus, less than the specified age of 18 years, people who are suspected to be foreigners and those who do not come from a particular constituency they want to register for, among other reasons.

The total registrants for the past two weeks, included 19, 462 males and 18, 833 females.

The region has 18 constituencies across which the exercise is being done.

In the Ho Municipality, 88 persons were challenged in the first two weeks of the exercise.

Meanwhile, the District Registration Review Committee (DRRC) begun sitting in the Ho municipality last week.

At its sitting on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, fourteen persons (14) out of the Twenty Three (23) challenged persons who appeared before the Committee in the first week were cleared.

Again, at the Committee sitting on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, out of 65 challenge cases, 34 were cleared.

In all, 88 persons have been challenged in the first two weeks in the Ho municipality and 48 cleared.

Their cards have subsequently been given to them.

The Committee, will sit again to look into other challenged cases before it.

The Nine-Member Committee is chaired by Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII, the Warlord of the Asogli State and Dufia of Ho Dome.
