The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana (E.P. Church Ghana), Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt Col. Bliss Divine. K. Agbeko, has said it would be a needless adventure for Ghana for that matter other neighboring African nations to commit troops to Niger for the restoration of democracy.
Addressing the media at a joint General Assembly/Synod of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana and Eglise Evangelique Presbterienne Du Togo, opening ceremony at the E.P. Church Ghana Headquarters on Friday, August 18 2023, in Ho, he said using military force to Niger would rather cost the sub-region.
“Using military force will cost the sub-region very much because our economies are not in good shape let alone to commit money to sponsor troops to Niger. I will call it a needless adventure that our politicians should not dare to do at all” he said.
He said the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for that matter politicians in the sub-region should do what is right in their various countries to avoid such military takeovers.
The retired military officer added that, politicians must rule in a way which will not call for agitations from civilians or the military in their respective countries to topple governments because there are more problems to solve.
According to him, diplomacy and negotiation is the best way.
On their part, Togbe Anikpi III, Chief of Ho Heve speaking on behalf of the Asogli State Council, asked the clergy to speak up on issues affecting the nation and its citizens.
He reiterated the call on government not to deploy Ghanaian Soldiers to Niger for the restoration of democracy but diplomacy should be employed.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ho Central Constituency Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo also adding his voice to the Niger coup suggested an alternative means of restoration democracy to the country rather military forces.
He said religious and traditional leaders should be to intervene in resolving the instability in Niger.
The joint Synod offered an opportunity for the General Assembly to make decisions on issues affecting the ministry direction of the church.
The 3-day program which begun on Friday, August 18 and ended on Sunday, August 20, 2023, paid attention to Eco Theology, human sexuality, global climate change, ministry tools and the need to review the management of the America congregation among others.
The opening ceremony was attended by traditional leaders government officials and other stakeholders.
