Three (3) teacher unions in the Volta region have staged a protest to voice their grievances regarding the conditions of service affecting their members across the country. Despite numerous appeals to the government, their concerns have been overlooked.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-Gh) have collectively addressed their grievances to the central government through the Volta Regional Minister, with the aim of ensuring the welfare of all stakeholders involved in education delivery in Ghana.
The teachers are urging their employers to fulfill their promises and commitments by addressing various concerns, including the Deprived Area Allowance, Extra Assessment Allowance, Book/Data/Online Teaching Support Allowance, and Upward Adjustment of the CPD Allowance.
Despite the unions’ display of goodwill, the government has shown reluctance and demonstrated a lack of concern for the welfare of teachers in the region and the country at large.
During their protest, the three teacher unions visited the premises of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to present their petition to the Regional Minister, urging the government to promptly address their grievances and take swift action to improve their situation.
The Coordinating Director, Mr. Augustus Awiti, received the petition on behalf of the Regional Minister and assured the teachers that the government would respond to their challenges and potentially devise strategies to address their concerns.
