The Volta Regional Director for the department of Agriculture, Delali Nutsukpo has charged stakeholders in the region to educate and empower women to get involved in agriculture so as to boost food crop production.
He made this revelation at a consultative forum of the Volta Regional Department of Agriculture as part of their development processes to review some operational policies and also map out measures to ensure massive boost in the sector.
According to Mr. Nutsukpo, the agricultural sector has made stringent efforts to promote sustainable and thriving agribusiness through research and technology development, effective extension of support services to farmers, processors and traders for improved livelihood in the region.
He noted that, though his office was able to mobilize efforts to improve food crop production in the region over the years; there is the need to involve the contribution of women in the sector.
He observed that, women in the region lack ample empowerment and education which will entice them to work in the Agriculture sector hence the decline in their numbers and interest towards agriculture.
He further called on women in the region to join the sector and append their contributions toward the growth and development of the Agriculture.
He however stated that, his ministry has partnered the Canadian government to rally a sum total of GHC2.5million funds to support women who are ready to enter into agriculture to boost crop productions in the region as he is confident that when women are given the opportunity to contribute in the agricultural sector in the region, they will record massive economic boost.
