The Legal Resources Centre (LRC) has organized a stakeholders engagement for opinion leaders and residents in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
The engagement which was held on Tuesday May 17 , 2022 was dubbed “No barrier to Justice” and drew participants from CSO’s, Judiciary, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons, Ghana Fire Service, the Media, Teachers among others.
Speaking at the engagement, the LRC main advocate Madam Rita Demuyakor, established that there are so many people wasting in our prisons due to the delay and unjust judgement.
She also noted that, the inability of families and communities to accept these individuals after serving their sentences is posing another challenge which she described as a big worry.
The Legal Resources Centre is therefore advocating for the passing of the Community Service Bill which will serve as a mechanism of decongesting our prisons.
According to the LRC, the introduction will enable the government and the various communities to receive free service from these first time offenders.
