Togbe Darkey III chief of Adaklu Avedzi in the Adaklu District of the Volta region has bemoaned the inability of government to support the Adaklu Avedzi community with classroom blocks to accommodate pupils.
Togbe Darkey in an interview with Inside Ghana News Service (IGNEWSS) lamented on the state of their structure which accommodates pupils from basic five to Junior High School (JHS) 3.
Togbe disclosed that the school was initially started from under trees before the community took it upon themselves to construct thatched tents to move some of the pupils whilst leaving the rest under the trees.
Togbe said he has also mobilized funds to start a computer lab which is yet to be completed.
He further called on the government and benevolent entities to assist the school by constructing structures to accommodate pupils to ensure quality education in the Adaklu Avedzi community.
A visit by Inside Ghana News Service to the school saw pupils from class five and six having their classes under trees on the campus whiles JHS students were managing old thatched structures available in the school.
The said classrooms visited by the reporter were furnished with some dual desk, old and weak plywood blackboards and no teachers tables and chairs.
Teachers on the other hand are left with no option than to manage one of the withered trees as staff common rooms for their preparation and rest.
IGNEWSS understood that, for safety and fear of damage of the desk, students always have to move the desks every morning and afternoon from one of the kindergarten classes which alone is causing damages to the few desks they are having.
