A Youth Activist, Carlos Ganyo Femi, is spearheading a monthly health walk aimed at urging first-time eligible voters to register ahead of the upcoming general election.
Dubbed ‘Walk with Carlos Femi,’ this initiative seeks to inspire eligible voters without a voter ID and first-time voters to register starting May 7, when the Electoral Commission (EC) launches registration centers nationwide.
The sensitization campaign commenced with hundreds of participants, predominantly youth from Abutia Kpolukorfe, engaging in voter education within Abutia Kisifli, the largest market community in the Ho West District.
This walk, which has already traversed five communities in the electoral area, is set to extend to other regions until the conclusion of the election, promoting what they term as communal labor.
Additionally, the walk aims to foster robust community participation in the electoral process, thereby aiming for a substantial turnout in the 2024 election.
Speaking with Carlos Femi, he stressed the importance of actively encouraging individuals to register to vote once they reach the age of 18.
This initiative, he emphasized, is crucial in empowering them to participate in decision-making processes that hold significance for the entire nation.
Despite his association with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Femi made it clear that his approach to mobilization transcends party lines.
He underscored that his strategy is nonpartisan, aiming solely at increasing voter turnout and civic engagement.
He highlighted a shared objective with the NDC, focusing on enhancing the electoral area by promoting greater participation in general elections. According to him, this heightened involvement in the democratic process will facilitate the attraction of developmental projects to the region, thereby addressing challenges faced by farmers and traders, particularly in terms of improving infrastructure like roads.Top of Form
According to Femi, the aim of the walk extends beyond mere exercise; it also involves pinpointing individuals lacking Ghana Cards and providing them with guidance on acquiring guarantors.
This assistance he said will ensure they can register without apprehension once the registration process commences.
The walk has now traversed several communities in the electoral area in its fifth month, including Kisifli, Amesianyakorfe, Kpolukofe, Teleafenui, and Kpota. Sebekorfe, Hlorve, and Gbetekpo are also expected to be included, where the team will engage them to speak at their various information centers in order to educate the public in the upcoming walks.
