The former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly, Hon. Gordon Asubonteng, has underscored the crucial importance of acquiring quality education, emphasizing its role in developing human capacities and capabilities.

In an interview with Newsmen, the former MCE highlighted the integral connection between education and the human brain, which controls the entire body’s functions in our daily activities.

He emphasized that education plays a significant role in shaping the human brain, underscoring its paramount importance for individuals.

Hon. Gordon Asubonteng elaborated on the evolving understanding of education, noting that in contrast to previous years where intelligence quotient (IQ) solely measured students’ intelligence, modern education incorporates the emotional quotient (EQ).

The EQ, focused on measuring emotions, is closely tied to the human heart, offering optimal brain training. Managing emotions effectively, according to him, enhances learning outcomes, fostering confidence, competence, capacity, and character development.

He emphasized that educated individuals should refrain from engaging in corrupt practices.

The former MCE addressed the persistent issue of examination malpractice in Ghana’s education system, attributing its existence to the presence of lazy students seeking shortcuts to pass exams despite efforts by teachers and invigilators to curb such misconduct.

Expressing concern over the erosion of values in society, Hon. Gordon Asubonteng lamented the prevalence of falsehoods, lies, and deception, contributing to the escalating rate of exam malpractice.

He called upon stakeholders and parents to urgently implement measures to mitigate exam malpractice, emphasizing the importance of fostering a better educational environment for the development of a nation with brighter future leaders.
