Anfoeta Tsebi basic school celebrates 2nd annual speech and prize giving day

Anfoeta Tsebi DA Primary and Junior High School (JHS) in the Ho West district of the Volta Region has celebrated their 2nd annual speech and prize giving day.

The event was held on the theme: “Creating Fertile Ground for Sustainable Education Development, The Role of Stakeholders.”

Headmistress of the school, Madam Juliana Ameh, noted that the schools since their establishment have been discharging their core duties that’s quality, inclusive and equity education.

According to her, the primary and JHS started in 1984 and 1987 respectively adding that, the primary school including the kindergarten has a total population of 339 students out of which 220 are boys and 179 being girls.

She said, the primary school has six-unit classroom block a storeroom, a kitchen and an office and the JHS on the other hand also has a three-unit classroom block with a staff common room and an office.

Madam Juliana Ameh noted that Anfoeta Tsebi DA JHS produced the best student in the Volta Region in 2018, received the presidential award and the school to placed first position in the Ho West 2022 BECE result analysis out of 71 schools in the district.

She said notwithstanding the successes, the school is bedevilled with some challenges adding that the primary school has a computer lab with only 4 desktop computers whilst the JHS has no ICT lab.

She noted that, the school needs a well-resourced library to enhance reading, and also more teachers because there are only 4 substantive teachers at the primary school currently.

She further added that, the school also needs more teachers’ bungalows as what they have currently can only cater for only two.

“We also need teaching and learning resources to help implement the new curriculum well. We are again appealing for a new toilet facility to be constructed for the primary school for the already existing one is no longer safe for use.”

Mr Nelson Klu, Parent and Teachers Association (PTA) vice chairman for the school noted that the celebration will bring about significant and positive transformation in education and in the lives of the people.

He said, it will also help to raise funds to provide the needed teaching and learning materials for the pupils.

Principal speaker for the occasion, Engineer Edward Anyam remarked that, the good people of Anfoeta Tsebi must redefine their priorities and ensure that the education of their children becomes the topmost agenda.

He observed that Anfoeta residents relished the important role of education as a tool/catalyst for accelerated community development and poverty alleviation and therefore called on parents and guardians to limit spending their scarce resources on funerals, parties and issues of less importance and rather invest them in the total education of the young ones for a better tomorrow.

He reiterated that as major stakeholders in the education sub sector of the economy, guardians and traditional leaders must come together in unity and fight against anything that is preventing their wards from gaining the ultimate in their educational pursuits.

He said ” We must not just sit on the fence castigate government for not providing infrastructure or textbooks for our schools but contribute our widow’s mite to the improvement of our children’s education. Let us all pull over resources to create the desirable ambience and motivate these young ones and their teachers in any way possible to achieve the ultimate. Let us remember it is possible together.”

Mr Edwin Kweku Addae, the guest speaker for the occasion, cautioned the students to stay away from things that will take them from their books like boyfriend, girlfriend and mobile phones among others.

He also called on parents to provide the basic needs and care of their wards to enhance effective learning and quality education.

The paramount chief of Anfoeta traditional area, Togbe Kwesi Drah VII donated a cash amount of Ghc5,000 on behalf of all the Chiefs and elders of Anfoeta to support the occasion.
